The Shark Is Broken

The West End Premiere of Ian Shaw and Joseph Nixon's play The Shark is Broken in London for a strictly limited season

Cape Cod, 1974: shooting on the new movie Jaws has stalled with a combination of foul weather and a broken mechanical co-star. Now three actors - Robert Shaw, Roy Sheider and Richard Dreyfuss - are now stuck together on a boat out in the ocean, when three real-life great white sharks show themselves... bearing their teeth...

Inspired by Robert Shaw's diaries, and written by his son Ian Shaw with Joseph Nixon, The Shark is Broken is the hilarious behind-the-scenes drama on one of Hollywood's biggest blockbusters.

The cast features Ian Shaw as 'Robert Shaw', Demetri Goritsas as 'Roy Schieder', and Liam Murray Scott as 'Richard Dreyfuss'.

Directed by Guy Masterson, with designs by Duncan Henderson, lighting by Neil Austin and Jamie Platt, and music and sound by Adam Cork.

Please Note: This production was originally scheduled to play here at London's Ambassador's Theatre in 2020 - with previews from 11 May 2020, opening on 19 May 2020, and closing on 18 July 2020 - but due to the COVID-19 situation it was postponed. This production transfers to London's West End following an acclaimed run at the Brighton Rialto Theatre from 24 to 27 July 2019, and at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, where it played at the Assembly George Square Studios Three from 2 to 25 August 2019, in both cases with the same cast, with the exception of Duncan Henderson as 'Roy Schieder', and sound by David Thomas.

Guy Masterson's London theatre credits include Tim Whitnall's Morecambe at the Duchess Theatre in 2009.

The Shark Is Broken in London at the Ambassadors Theatre public previews from 9 October 2021, opens on 21 October 2021, and closes on 15 January 2022
