The Sound of Music

The world's best-loved musical, The Sound of Music, returns to the West End with Andrew Lloyd Webber's dazzling new production opening at the London Palladium. The Sound of Music is based on the uplifting true story of the Von Trapp family and was the last collaboration between Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II, becoming one of the most successful Oscar-winning film musicals of all time.

This family classic will be directed for the stage by Jeremy Sams and will be choreographed by Arlene Phillips.

The story of The Sound of Music touches the hearts of all ages and brims over with some of the most memorable songs ever performed on the musical stage including Climb Ev'ry Mountain, Do-Re-Mi, My Favourite Things, Edelweiss, Sixteen Going on Seventeen, The Lonely Goatherd and of course the glorious title song The Sound of Music.

The lead role of 'Maria' has been choosen by the audience! Viewers to the BBC television series How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria? voted to have Connie Fisher play the role. When it was announced that Connie had won the part she said: "I feel on top of the world, thanks very much. I won't let you down. Every night will be an opening night. Thanks for making my dreams come true."

Andrew Lloyd Webber and David Ian, the producers of The Sound of Music, are delighted with the viewers' choice of Connie. "She has tremendous ability and will be a great success", said Andrew.

Connie Fisher is scheduled to play the role of 'Maria' six times-a-week, on Tuesday to Saturday evenings and Saturday matinees, up to 23 February 2008. Please note that Connie will be on holiday from 16 to 28 July 2007 and 13 to 24 November 2007.

Aoife Mulholland is scheduled to play the role of 'Maria' two times-a-week, on Monday evenings and Wednesday matinees and during Connie Fisher's holiday, excluding Monday evenings and Wednesday matinees where the understudy will perform. The understudy will also perform on Monday 17 September evening and Wednesday 19 September matinee 2007 as Aoife will be on holiday. Aoife was a finalist on How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria? where she was dubbed 'Irish Maria'. She comes to The Sound of Music having completed a very successful season as 'Roxie' in the West End production of Chicago the Musical.

Please note that casting is subject to change, and if an actress is indisposed then the role will be covered in the usual manner by the understudy.
