Helena Blackman played the role of 'Gypsy Rose Lee' in Gypsy at the Wales Millennium Centre on Sunday 29 October 2006 at 7.30pm as part of the Cardiff International Festival of Musical Theatre. Andrew Lloyd Webber, Patron of The Cardiff International Festival of Musical Theatre, said: "I'm delighted that the hugely talented Helena is performing the role of Gypsy Rose Lee. This girl has a great future and like everyone I am going to follow her career with great interest."

Regarding her similarities with Maria from The Sound of Music, Helnea says that "I love to play, I'm no shrinking violet, I believe in being fair and standing up for what is right and true, I'm responsible, I don't always act like a lady, I work with children, I'm happy-go-lucky, everything around me effects me especially nature, I'm emotional and wear my heart on my sleeve," adding that "I can sing the part, I can perform the part, I have the stamina to do six shows a week and I won't let the cast and crew down."
