Stage Experience comes to the Grand Opera House Theatre in York this August with the musical Guys and Dolls. Some 80 young people aged 10-21 who will have auditioned for the show, rehearse and perform this full scale production in just two weeks during the summer holidays. Lead by a professional director and choreographer. Guys and Dolls tells the story of a group of small-time gamblers and the ladies in their lives. Nathan Detroit bets his pal Sky Masterson that he can't make the next lady he sees fall in love with him, and when the next lady happens to be the prim and proper neighbourhood missionary Sarah Brown, the stage is set for an evening of high spirited entertainment, set to the toe tapping beat of Frank Loesser's superlative score. A thrilling score includes numbers such as Sit Down You're Rocking The Boat, Luck Be A Lady Tonight and Take Back Your Mink as the show brings to life the Broadway of the 1940's, inhabited by gamblers, nightclub performers and members of the Salvation Army in search of sinners to cure. A musical fable of Broadway based on a story and characters of Damon Runyon with music and lyrics by Frank Loesser, book by Jo Swerling and Abe Burrows. This amateur production is presented at the York Grand Opera House Theatre by arrangement with Josef Weinberger Ltd on behalf of Music Theatre International of New York.

The Barclay James Harvest was finally fully formed in 1967 and were progressive and experimental from day one, utilising orchestral ensembles and breaking away from standard methods of songwriting, just as The Beatles had done on their groundbreaking 'Sgt Pepper' album.
