"As cultural phenomena go, Strictly is probably review-proof. Die-hard fans of the BBC series will flock to this, the fifth edition of the live touring version, regardless of what anyone of my ilk makes of this glitzy slab of light entertainment. The show's formulaic structure converts the arenas in which it's being staged into glorified sitting rooms where viewers can shout to their favourite and fantasise about them that much more three-dimensionally. On its own tinselly, cruise-ship-aesthetic terms Strictly has fun with failure. Slipping an appreciation of this concept into mainstream culture could be the show's most interesting by-product. To be fair, some dancing was worth looking at: Jason Donovan's gung-ho stabs at the jitterbug and tango, say, or a vivacious quick-step by the pint-sized television actress Chelsee Healey. But the audience chose the pop-rock drummer (and Series 9 champ) Harry Judd as the evening's winner, after he'd shown such polished form steering Aliona Vilani round the vast floor. The music, played and sung live , was strong, while the banter between the contestants and judges - Craig Revel Horwood (acerbic), Len Goodman (indulgently avuncular) and Bruno Tonioli (gushing) - frequently tipped over into the sort of saucily camp innuendo primetime viewers rarely hear." The Times

"No Ann Widdecombe this year, alas, being flung around the stage with all the grace of air-dropped food aid - nor anything close to it in the recently launched touring version of Strictly... It was fun, though, and injections of irreverence - aside from the judges' sometimes risque repartee and Kate Thornton's jovial commentary - are exactly what's needed in a lavishly lit and expertly polished show that - even live - can take the winning rather than the taking part too seriously." The Daily Telegraph

"Over the past couple of years, the Strictly Come Dancing Live Tour has taken a nosedive but I am happy to report that has all changed. Thanks to Craig Revel Horwood being let loose as director. As well as mangling the Queen's English, the show is now dazzling, colourful, noisy and tuneful and full of big-hearted dancing. The arena setting is the same, only better. A huge central dais adds a friendly new dimension to Wembley's vast space. The glitter balls are still there, but more of them, and judges Len Goodman, Bruno Tolioni and Horwood, front the band's miniature Hollywood Bowl, all bright and busily lit... Each of the eight celebrities dance twice, once in each part of the two-part show. The judges' scores are supplemented by an audience phone-in and the winners take away a miniature glitterball." The Sunday Express
