Starlight Express

Starlight Express, the fastest show on earth!

Starlight Express is the traditional children's tale of The Little Engine That Could. It teaches a powerful lesson about the triumph of the human spirit, the underdog competing against stronger and faster competition. The story is told against a backdrop of high-tech staging, special effects and Andrew Lloyd Webber's pulsating score.

"Stunning spectacle... dazzling costumes... daredevil stunts... this family-friendly phenomenon shows no signs of running out of steam"
The Manchester Evening News

In 1976, inspired by a trip on the Valley Railroad in New England with his children, Andrew Lloyd Webber wrote a few songs for a proposed cartoon feature about animated trains. The cartoon was never produced but Andrew Lloyd Webber took those initial songs and ideas and composed a full length musical about trains, called Starlight Express!

Starlight Express went on to open in London on 27 March 1984, closing after just under 18 years on 12 January 2002.

Simply light years ahead of the rest, this futuristic tale of the triumph of love and hope in the face of adversity is a feel-good musical with something for everyone!

"Make no mistake, every ticket for a journey on the Starlight Express provides a first class experience"
