Winter Spring 2007 Season at The Peacock Theatre, Dublin:
A Number - By Caryl Churchill Thursday 15 February to Saturday 3 March 2007
'We've got ninety-nine per cent the same genes as any other person. We've got ninety per cent the same as a chimpanzee. We've got thirty per cent the same as a lettuce. Does that cheer you up at all?' Salter is the father of three sons. Three identical sons. His relationship with each of them is unique. But are they… A Number by Caryl Churchill is a tender and troubling play about fathers and sons, and what makes us who we are. First produced at the Royal Court Theatre in London in 2002 A Number was a huge success. Once again, Churchill was acclaimed for her originality and ability to raise big moral issues through the most human circumstance. Caryl Churchill's play A Number on stage at Dublin's Peacock Theatre in a production directed by Annabelle Comyn and with a cast including Stuart Graham and Alan Williams.
Kicking A Dead Horse - By Sam Shepard Monday 12 March to Saturday 14 April 2007
Kicking A Dead Horse written and directed by Sam Shepard. Hobart Struther is a man with nothing to prove. So how come he's miles from nowhere with a dead horse? Sam Shepard's striking new play tells the story of one man's search for authenticity. The world premiere of Kicking a Dead Horse continues the Abbey Theatre's on-going exploration of Shepard's work and the theatre's commitment to Shepard as one of the most important playwrights of a generation. Oscar-nominated actor Stephen Rea stars in this production at The Peacock Theatre in Dublin.
Saved - By Edward Bond Friday 27 April to Saturday 26 May 2007
Edward Bond's play Saved directed by Jimmy Fay. Set in a dreary South London council estate in the 1960s, Saved is the story of a group of young people hardened by a life without hope or opportunity. Frustration and desperation fuels the violence of their lives and relationships. Initially refused a public performance licence in 1965, Edward Bond's controversial and disturbing play is now recognised as one of the most important works in the English language of the twentieth century. Graphic violence runs through Bond's plays, but he uses it to provoke self-awareness, not shock. The Abbey Theatre Dublin presents a rare opportunity to see this play being performed as part of the 4 x 4 season at the Peacock Theatre. Please note the play contains scenes of a disturbing nature. Strictly suitable for over 16s.
