My Fair Lady

Henry Higgins, an opinionated linguistics professor and confirmed bachelor, makes a wager with a colleague that within six months he can transform a cockney flower seller, Eliza Doolittle, into a lady who can take her place in high society.

He wins the bet, but doesn't bargain for the profound effect she has on his life.

This award-winning National Theatre production of Lerner and Loewe's classical musical My Fair Lady is touring the UK for 11 months up to August 2006.

My Fair Lady is adapted from George Bernard Shaw's Pygmalion and is directed by Trevor Nunn with choreography and musical staging by Matthew Bourne and sets and costumes designed by Anthony Ward.

"This stylish, spectacular production is a class act. Irresistibly entertaining" The Mail on Sunday

"As Lerner and Loewe's musical My Fair Lady approaches its 50th anniversary next year, Trevor Nunn's 2001 National Theatre production is touring the country prior to crossing the pond to New York... Russ Abbot turns out a terrific Alfred P Doolittle - his singing and dancing as effortless as his gift for comedy. In his ensemble numbers, he's energetically supported by the company. Anthony Ward's versatile, airy designs are alone worth the ticket price. With the expressionless intensity of somnambulists, the elegantly clad chorus of stylish ladies and frock-coated gents twirl their umbrellas as if straight out of a Caillebotte painting. And setting the Royal Ascot scene in mourning black was de rigueur in 1910, just months after the death of Edward VII. The famous race is run in almost cinematic slow-motion, as the onlookers reel slowly round before reeling back in horror at Eliza's bloomer." The Independent

"Musical Theatre at the very summit of its achievement... it undoubtedly remains the top recommendation in town" The Daily Telegraph

"This fabulous Lerner and Loewe musical still works its enchanting magic" The London Evening Standard

"This My Fair Lady remains a lovely night out and trumps the Oscar-laden 1964 screen version" The Times

Winner of five Olivier Awards including 'Outstanding Musical Production' and 'Best Theatre Choreography' (for Matthew Bourne).
