Winter Spring 2007 Season at The Abbey Theatre Dublin:

Julius Caesar
Monday 12 February to Saturday 17 March 2007

William Shakespeare's play Julius Caesar directed by Jason Byrne. For the first time in its history, the Abbey Theatre in Dublin presents Julius Caesar, Shakespeare's definitive drama of power and politics. Julius Caesar is the greatest hero the Roman world has known. He is ambitious and invincible 'as constant as the Northern star/of whose true-fixt and resting quality/there is no fellow in the firmament'. But ambition breeds enemies, turns friend to foe and words to weapons. Watch honour, patriotism and friendship collide in one of the greatest conspiracy stories ever told. This timely production, heralding the election year, is directed by Jason Byrne, whose earlier interpretations of Shakespeare for his company Loose Canon, include an award-winning Macbeth, and groundbreaking productions of Julius Caesar and Coriolanus. The thirty four strong cast in this Dublin Abbey Theatre production features Robert O'Mahoney as Julius Caesar, Declan Conlon as Brutus, Frank McCusker as Cassius and Aidan Kelly as Mark Anthony.

The Cavalcaders - By Billy Roche
Tuesday 10 April to Saturday 19 May 2007

Meet The Cavalcaders - Terry, Rory, Ted and Josie - three generations of Barbershop singers. These likely lads spend their days mending shoes and their nights as singers of local legend, holding court on the charity circuit. This is the story of their lives, their loves, their betrayals and their memories. The cast for The Cavalcaders at The Abbey Theatre Dublin features Stephen Brennan, Ingrid Craigie, David Ganly, John Kavanagh, Simone Kirby, Garrett Lombard. The Cavalcaders is directed by Robin Lefevre.

The Crucible - By Arthur Miller
Saturday 26 May to Saturday 7 July 2007

The Dublin Abbey Theatre presents The Crucible, Arthur Miller's compelling drama of paranoia and superstition, directed by Patrick Mason with a cast that includes Cathy Belton, Marion O'Dwyer, Derry Power. In 1692, in a small town in America, a group of mischievous girls are caught conjuring spirits while dancing in the woods. To escape punishment they accuse other women in the town of witchcraft. Trouble comes to all when the women are tried in court. Husbands, wives, sons, daughters, neighbours and friends are forced to sentence the accused or risk being accused themselves. In telling this powerful story Arthur Miller drew a chilling parallel between the Salem witch hunt of 1962 and the political paranoia and hysteria of the McCarthy era in 1950s America. This magnificent work continues to resonate; its 'darkly attractive warning' is as relevant today as it was when first produced.
