The musical show Where is Peter Rabbit? in London - the Beatrix Potter Musical Adventure!
Watch with delight as your favourite Beatrix Potter stories and most beloved characters are brought to life in this theatrical spectacular, with handcrafted puppets, original songs.... and a sprinkle of magic.
Look out for the ferocious Mr. McGregor, reach heady heights with Jemima Puddle-Duck, do the laundry with Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle and of course, fall in love with the mischievous Peter Rabbit.
Featuring the voices of Mayleene Klass and Griff Rhys Jones, and song lyrics by Alan Ayckbourn.
Directed and choreographed by Sheila Carter. Devised by Roger Glossop from the stories by Beatrix Potter with lyrics by Alan Ayckbourn and music by Steven Edis.
This production was originally staged here at London's Haymarket Theatre from 5 to 28 Aril 2019 when the pre-recorded voices featured Miriam Margolyes and Griff Rhys Jones.
"What makes this show special is the exquisite attention to detail, the exact cut and colour of Mr Tod's velvet waistcoat, the precise pink of the foxgloves, Jemima Puddle-Duck's waggling, downy tail and flapping fringed silk shawl, so familiar from Beatrix Potter's illustrations and so faithfully recreated by theatre designer Roger Glossop. The scale of the piece is tiny but the ambition and the production values couldn't be higher... Pure animal magic, and beautifully done." The Mail on Sunday
"I have to say that Beatrix Potter and Alan Ayckbourn make quite a combo. Who knew that would work so well? The whole event, which lasts an hour and is for all ages, even adults, tells five of Beatrix Potter's tales, with the characters portrayed via intricate puppets... Roger Glossop, both designer and deviser of this musical, has created something special here... At times it does feel as if they are trying to pack too much into an hour but the director, Sheila Carter, succeeds in capturing the spirit of the original stories. The props, on the revolving set, could have been created by Potter herself. The children in the audience (much better behaved than adults in the West End) reacted to the moments of theatrical magic with audible gasps... It's a joy." The Times
"The 55-minute show is so gentle, even Wordsworth might have felt over-soothed... Director Sheila Carter introduces some inventive flourishes, but expressiveness is on the rudimentary side... The beautiful original illustrations are honoured, and some of Beatrix Potter's lines are a pleasure in their own right. But the whole thing is little match for the satisfaction that lies in perusing the books... To his credit, Alan Ayckbourn's lyrics have a bland but perky enjoyability... The cutesome sight of that fluffy rabbit rebel, who dares, in a world of Victorian rectitude, parental caution and fatal threat, to carpe diem is just about worth the price of admission for the very young (three to six, I'd say) or the very nostalgic and indulgent." The Daily Telegraph
