The hit cabaret show La Soirée returns to London for a Christmas and New Year holiday season at the Aldwych Theatre in the heart of the West End
Returning to London for it's fifth season since it was first staged at the Big Top Tent on London's Southbank in 2010, this show promises to once again amaze audiences with it's heady cocktail of cabaret, new burlesque, circus sideshow and contemporary variety in an inspirational night of live entertainment.
PLEASE NOTE: Recommended for ages 18 and above, the show may contain nudity.
PLEASE NOTE: 3.00pm La Petite Soirée - all of the spirit of La Soiree, minus the sauce! - these performances are special 'family-friendly, fun and daring hour-long shows for cabaret fans of all ages from 8 to 80!' These take place at 3.00pm on Saturdays and selected days during the Christmas holidays.
Originally staged at the Big Top Tent on London's Southbank (by the National Theatre) over Christmas and New Year 2010/2011, the show returned to London the following year at the Roundhouse in North London. After a break, the show was performed for two seasons in a Spiegeltent located next to the Southbank Centre in London over Christmas 2014 and 2015. It was last seen in London for it's fifth season in a Spiegeltent located in Leicester Square within the heart of the West End when it played a hugely successful two month season from 11 November 2016 through to 8 January 2017.
When this production was originally seen at the Southbank's Big Top Tent in October 2010, Brian Logan in The Guardian exclaimed: "Beautiful. Funny. Impossible. La Soiree's triumph is that there's not a single moment when one, two or all three of those terms don't apply." Charles Spencer in The Daily Telegraph wrote that "frankly, good nights out don't come much better than La Soiree... mixing good humour and glamour with a thrilling frisson of danger, La Soiree offers a wonderfully warm and welcoming refuge from the cold, scary world outside." Ian Shuttleworth in The Financial Times commented that "shows such as La Soirée confirm that variety cabaret isn't dead yet, and that it would be a shame to lose it." Keith Watson in The Metro hailed it as being "sheer feel-good entertainment." Michael Coveney in The Independent highlighted that "the show certainly deals in a sort of Camden Lock-style exhibitionist masochism... There's a huge amount of skill on show" Fiona Mountford in The London Evening Standard commented that this "sparkling new show, celebrating the ongoing revival of the variety/cabaret genre, is just the thing to combat the gloom," and "is the perfect offering for the forthcoming festive season," adding that although "a couple of turns - the programme varies slightly from night to night - fall a little flat - overall the standard is terrifically high."
La Soiree in London at the Aldwych Theatre public previews from 24 November 2017, opens on 1 December 2017 and closes on 3 February 2018
