This Christmas - the award-winning La Clique in London for a strictly limited holiday season
La Clique, the international entertainment sensation, returns to London's Leicester Square for a Christmas season. Impossible to define and impossible to resist, La Clique is an ever-changing collection of some of the most outrageous, hilarious, beautiful and downright bizarre acts you will ever see. With its edgy fusion of cabaret, new burlesque, circus sideshow and contemporary vaudeville, this is a show like nothing you have ever experienced before - seductive, funny, dangerous and above all, heart-warming sensational - and a show that must be seen - LIVE!
This 2019 Christmas season stars the mistress of mayhem Bernie Dieter (Little Death Club) as MC, along with the gentleman juggler Florian Brooks, the fire-breathing, sword-swallowing, side-show sensation Heather Holiday, the iconic Bath Boy acrobat Stephen Williams and many more acts - all accompanied by the La Clique Palace Orkestra, the scintillating live house band featuring the astounding vocals of Kelly Wolfgramm.
La Clique first played to great acclaim at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2004. It was originally seen in London at the Hippodrome Theatre where it opened in October 2008 and enjoyed a nine month season - winning the Olivier Award for 'Best Entertainment' - since when the show has returned to London for a number of seasons including at the Roundhouse. Now La Clique returns to London once again, following sell-out seasons in Sydney, Melbourne, Montreal, Dublin, New York and Edinburgh.
PLEASE NOTE: This show contains adult content including strong language and nudity, and is therefore only recommended for over 16's. Under 16's must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Real flames will be used in performances.
"The London Hippodrome has been many things in its time: from a sensational circus featuring sea lions and polar bears, a venue where Swan Lake had its English premiere, to a disco run by Peter Stringfellow... But under its current manager, Nick Wright, it has undergone a welcome renaissance and returned to its more glorious days as a home for breathtaking circus acts, redefining the kind of 'ooh-aagh' that might go on within its hallowed walls... Wright has signed up, until February, a cabaret show, La Clique, created by the touring Spiegeltent International, which first played to great acclaim at the Edinburgh Festival in 2004. This is cabaret with intelligence and wit to which you could happily bring a stag or hen party, or, indeed, your open-minded mother." The Sunday Telegraph
"Sex and the circus is a sticky subject. When a contortionist bends a leg behind her head, you go 'ooh' and 'aah' but keep the erotic button on mute - though you're playing the possibilities through in your head. The same goes for pumped trapeze guys in skin-tight Lycra. Suppress those big-top urges no longer: La Clique puts sex at the head of its tricktastic agenda... La Clique flicks the erotic switch right from the start of a night of top-notch turn-ons... If there's a downside, it's that the night peaks too soon, the highlights packed into an orgiastic first half. And hardcore circus groupies will have seen many of these acts before. But with La Clique it ain't the meat, it's the motion." The London Metro
"La Clique is more overtly kinky, with its tongue humorously in its cheek. Burlesque cabaret, a fast-rising cult on the fringe, has triumphantly reached the West End, with the Hippodrome in Leicester Square being rescued from oblivion by this troupe of contortionists, acrobats and sword-swallowers - all with an alternative twist... La Clique creates a very winning big top-cum-cabaret atmosphere, with strings of lights, swags of red velvet and a raised stage closely encircled by the audience. More importantly, these frisky performance artists and circus acts are startlingly entertaining, with a hugely enjoyable "Aargh" factor." The Independent on Sunday
La Clique in London at the Leicester Square Spiegeltent opens on 8 November 2019, and closes on 4 January 2020
