Opened 8 October 2012, Closed 14 October 2012 at the Apollo Theatre in London
The Tony Award winning actress Idina Menzel in London backed by a 25-piece orchestra live on stage.
"She is very good company. Idina Menzel - the star of Rent and Wicked, not to mention the television hit Glee - may be one of the biggest names on Broadway, but in the show she has brought to the West End she presents herself as the girl from Long Island who still wants to be your best friend. And it works. She chatters, she jokes, she makes fun of herself... Her voice still sounds thin on the brasher orchestral climaxes: she doesn't quite manage to do a Streisand on Don't Rain on My Parade. But she brings an actress' sense of drama to singer-songwriter material which includes Joni Mitchell's Both Sides Now. And the more intimate ambience of the Apollo gave her a chance to bond with an audience that seemed almost impatient for her to dip into Wicked. Her heartfelt tribute to her late mentor Marvin Hamlisch - featuring At the Ballet from A Chorus Line - prompted a surprisingly tepid response, but the roof almost came off for Defying Gravity."
