Michael Quinn is one of the four remaining finalists in the television programme Grease is the Word who is hoping to play the role of 'Danny' in Grease the Musical on stage in London's West End theatreland!
Sorry Michael Quinn, you're not Danny. Michael was the second 'Danny' hopeful to be knocked out in the Semi Finals on Saturday 26 May 2007. Michael said: "It's been great being on the show and I can't be upset. I always said I wanted to make it to the final four and I came third so I achieved what I set out to do."
Michael Quinn is a 24 year old actor / singer from Lewisham.
Michael began having drama classes when he was 11. After finishing his training he spent seven months performing as a singer on a cruise which was followed by a season playing the role of 'The Pharoh' in Bill Kenwright's UK touring production of Joseph. His West End credits include being the alternate 'Elvis' in the stage musical Jailhouse Rock at London's Piccadilly Theatre. Michael says: "I've always enjoyed musical theatre and I'm a massive John Travolta fan. I must have all his films on DVD. I think he's amazing and I've seen the musical at least eight times."
Saturday 26 May 2007: This was the fifth week of the live Grease is the Word knock-out television show. This week was the 'Danny' Semi Finals when the four remaining Danny finalists - Michael Quinn, Anthony Kavanagh, Danny Bayne and Danny Rhodes - performed solo and two where knocked-out, leaving just two. First each finalist sung an Uptempo song - Michael sung 'Burning Love'. Afterwards David Ian told him: "You're a West End leading man. You deserve to be in the final." After each of the four finalists had sung their Uptempo song, the Judges had to make a decision on who would be the first to be knocked out this evening - they decided to knock out Danny Rhodes. AFter it was announced, Danny admitted: "I came into the competition assuming I'd be able to overcome my speech problems. But I'm just not ready." Now each of the remaining three finalists had to face the public vote as they each sung a ballad - Michael sung 'Patience' and David Ian told him after: "I require someone who can fill and thrill 2000 seats per night and you've proved to me that you can do that." Afterwards Zoe Ball announced that the finalist that the public alone had voted to be knocked out was Michael.
Saturday 19 May 2007: The fourth 'Danny and Sandy' couple where knocked-out tonight, but in a twist David Ian announced that the Sandy and Danny pairings where going to be changed around this week. Therefore this week Michael Quinn was paired up with Susan McFadden. The song theme this week was love songs and Michael and Susan sung the song 'We Got Tonight'. After all the finalists had sung and the public votes had been added up it was announced that Michael and Susan had managed to secure enough public votes to go through to the next programme of Grease is the Word.
Saturday 12 May 2007: The third week of the live Grease is the Word knock out shows. The theme this week was songs from the musicals - Michael was once again paired up with Vicky and together that sung the Queen song 'Don't Stop Me Now' from the musical We Will Rock You. After each of the remaining finalists had sung and the public votes had been added up it was revealed that Michael and Vicky had managed to secure enough public votes to go through to next week's programme.
Saturday 5 May 2007: The second week of the live Grease is the Word television shows had the theme songs from the movies. Like last week Michael Quinn was paired up with Vicky Hoyles and they sung 'Up Where We Belong'. After all the couples had sung their songs and the votes from the public had been counted up, it was announced that Michael and Vicky had come in the bottom two couples, along with Richard Morgan and Joanna Power - so they had to both perform the classic Grease song 'You're The One I Want' as if they where Danny and Sandy. After the sing-off, David Gest, on behalf of the Judges, said they wanted to save Michael and Vicky, so they return next week, and Richard and Joanna had to leave this week.
Saturday 28 April 2007: This week was the first of the live Grease is the Word television shows when one set of finalists where knocked-out. This week's theme was disco and Michael Quinn was paired with Vicky Hoyles and they sung 'On The Radio' - after all the finalists had sung and the public votes had been added up it was announced that Michael and Vicky had managed to secure enough public votes to go through to next week's programme.
