Joanna Power
Joanna Power was one of eight finalists in the television programme Grease is the Word who where competing for the chance to play the role of 'Sandy' in Grease the Musical on stage in London's West End theatreland! BBC I'd Do Anything - the latest television programme to select a Nancy and three Olivers to play in the new West End production of Oliver! Sorry Joanna Power - you're not Sandy. Joanna was the second 'Sandy' hopeful to be knocked out along with 'Danny' hopeful Richard on Saturday 5 May 2007. Joanna Power is a 22 pub singer from Essex. Joanna says: "Like 'Sandy', I am a bit of a geek at times but also I know I am quite cheeky too so I think I could use my own characteristics to help me play the part. I have a lot of passion to put into playing her and I just know I could do it," adding that "I just want to perform and entertain the word! If I wasn't doing Grease Is The Word, I would be still hammering away, trying to get a break. I would just keep on and on trying to make it till somehow I got there - unless someone like David Ian or Simon Cowell told me to give up and get a new career! That's my worst nightmare!" Saturday 5 May 2007: The second week of the live Grease is the Word television shows had the theme songs from the movies. Joanna was once again paired with Richard and they sung together the song 'Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me'. After all the remaining couples had sung and the public had voted, it was announced that Joanna and Richard had come in the bottom two, along with Michael Quinn and Vicky Hoyles - so they had to both perform the classic Grease song 'You're The One I Want' as if they where Danny and Sandy. After the sing-off, David Gest, on behalf of the Judges, said they wanted to save Vicky and Michaely, so Joanna and Richard had to leave. Saturday 28 April 2007: This week was the first of the live Grease is the Word television shows when one set of finalists where knocked-out.
