Danny Rhodes

Danny Rhodes was one of the eight finalists in the television programme Grease is the Word who was hoping to play the role of 'Danny' in Grease the Musical on stage in London's West End theatreland.

Sorry Danny Rhodes, you're not Danny. Danny R was the first to be knocked out at the Semi Finals on 26 May 2007. Danny Rhodes said: "I never thought I'd get this far. Just being on the show has been fantastic. Nothing has been bad. David Ian was really complimentary and said I had an amazing voice. I just want to improve my speech and continue singing."

Danny Rhodes is a 22 year old student and waiter from Southend-on-Sea. Danny has undergone an operation for his stammer - Danny says: "I've had an implant and whilst it isn't working so far, I'm confident it will. I've always sung. I've never had any problems with my stammer when I've been singing!"

Saturday 26 May 2007: This was the fifth week of the live Grease is the Word knock-out television show. This week was the 'Danny' Semi Finals when the four remaining Danny finalists - Danny Rhodes, Anthony Kavanagh, Danny Bayne, and Michael Quinn - performed solo and two where knocked-out, leaving just two. First each finalist sung an Uptempo song - Danny R sung 'I'm Still Standing'. Afterwards David Gest told him: "You're a fantastic singer and could have a pop career. But you're not Danny Zuko." After each of the four finalists had sung the Judges had to make a decision on who to knock out. They told Danny R: "We're looking for someone who can sing, dance and act. You're so brave going to the acting workshop. But I think you know, you're just not ready. Were it a sing-through role, it would be totally different." Danny admitted: "I came into the competition assuming I'd be able to overcome my speech problems. But I'm just not ready."

Saturday 19 May 2007: The fourth 'Danny and Sandy' couple where knocked-out tonight, but in a twist David Ian announced that the Sandy and Danny pairings where going to be changed around this week. Therefore this week Danny was paired with Alison Crawford. The song theme this week was love songs and Danny and Alison sung the song 'When You're Gone'. When all the public telephone votes had been added up it was announced that Danny and Alison had come in the bottom two, along with Bradley and Lauren - thus these two couples had to face each other in the dreaded sing-off, when the judges could save only one pair. The song this week, which both couples had to sing as if they where playing Sandy and Danny, was the classic Grease song 'You're The One That I Want'. After both couples had sung the song, Sinitta, on behalf of the Judges, said that they wanted to save Danny and Alison, thus they both return next week.

Saturday 12 May 2007: The third week of the live Grease is the Word knock out shows. The theme this week was songs from the musicals' Like last week Danny Rhodes was paired with Lauren and they sung 'The Circle Of Life' from the musical The Lion King. After each of the finalists had sung and the public votes had been added up it was revealed that Danny and Lauren had managed to secure enough public votes to go through to next week's programme.

Saturday 5 May 2007: The second week of the live Grease is the Word television shows had the theme songs from the movies - Danny Rhodes was once again paired with Lauren McConnell and they sung 'What a Feeling'. When all the 'Danny and Sandy' hopefuls had sung their songs and the public votes where added up, it was announced that Danny and Lauren had obtained enough votes to go through to next week's Grease is the Word television programme.
