Anthony Kavanagh is one of the two remaining finalists in the television programme Grease is the Word who is hoping to play the role of 'Danny' in Grease the Musical on stage in London's West End theatreland!
Sorry Anthony Kavanagh - you're not Danny. Anthony reached the Finals, but was knocked out on Saturday 9 June 2007.
Anthony Kavanagh comes from Manchester and is 29. Anthony is a professional singer who enjoyed UK chart success in the mid to late 1990s under the name Kavanagh.
Anthony said that he decided to audition for the role of 'Danny' in Grease the Musical when "somebody told me about it and said I'd be perfect for the role. I watched the film and I think I'm a bit goofy sometimes. I had just come back from LA and the auditions were happening. All my family, mates, and my gang in America will be supporting me."
Saturday 9 June 2007: The Grand Final of Grease is the Word. The show opened with three songs from Grease the Musical - 'Grease is the Word' was sung as an ensemble version by all four remaining finalists - Anthony Kavanagh, Danny Bayne, Susan McFadden and Michelle Antrobus - then the two 'Danny' hopefuls sung 'Sandy' and the two 'Sandy' hopefuls sung 'Hopelessly Devoted To You'. Afterwards each finalist sung a solo song of their own choosing that they thought best suited them - Anthony sung 'You Get What You Give'. Then they paired up again, this time 'Danny and Sandy' pairings to sing two more songs from Grease the Musical. Firstly, for 'Summer Loving', Anthony was paired up with Susan and Danny B was paired up with Michelle. Then, for the second song, 'You're The One That I Want', they swapped partners so Anthony sung with Michelle. Then the moment of true arrived when the public telephone lines closed and Zoe Ball come on to the stage to announce the winners! Firstly Zoe Ball announced that the role of 'Sandy' had been won by Susan, then she announced that the role of 'Danny' had been won by Danny B! Sorry Anthony, you are not 'Danny'.
Saturday 26 May 2007: This was the fifth week of the live Grease is the Word knock-out television show. This week was the 'Danny' Semi Finals when the four remaining Danny finalists - Anthony Kavanagh, Danny Bayne, Danny Rhodes and Michael Quinn - performed solo and two where knocked-out, leaving just two. First each finalist sung an Uptempo song - Anthony sung 'Your Love Keep Lifting Me Higher'. Afterwards David Ian told him: "I think you want your pop career back and that's all you really want." Brian Friedman said "Your acting skills worry me. You have charm but you've got to watch your posture" while Sinitta said:"You've got to own that stage." After each of the four finalists had sung their Uptempo song, the Judges had to make a decision on who would be the first to be knocked out this evening - they decided to knock out Danny Rhodes. After it was announced, Danny admitted: "I came into the competition assuming I'd be able to overcome my speech problems. But I'm just not ready." Now each of the remaining three finalists had to face the public vote as they each sung a ballad - Anthony sung 'If You're Not The One' and Brian Friedman told him after: "You and Danny Bayne, in my eyes, will be fighting each other for the role" but David Ian said "You've got to watch your attitude. I require the character of Danny to have attitude... not you!" Afterwards Zoe Ball announced that the finalist that the public alone had voted to be knocked out was Michael - therefore Anthony returns in two weeks for the Grand Final.
Saturday 19 May 2007: The fourth 'Danny and Sandy' couple where knocked-out tonight, but in a twist David Ian announced that the Sandy and Danny pairings where going to be changed around this week. Therefore this week Anthony was paired up with Vicky Hoyles. The song theme this week was love songs and Anthony and Vicky sung 'Ain't No Mountain High Enough' together. After all the finalists had sung and the public votes had been added up it was announced that Anthony and Vicky had managed to secure enough public votes to go through to next Grease is the Word programme.
Saturday 12 May 2007: The third week of the live Grease is the Word knock out shows. The theme this week was songs from the musicals and Anthony was once again paired up with Alison and together they sung the Rod Stewart song 'Tonight's The Night' from the musical of the same name. After all the finalists had sung and the public votes had been added up it was announced that Anthony and Alison had managed to secure enough public votes to go through to next week's programme.
Saturday 5 May 2007: The second week of the live Grease is the Word television shows had the theme songs from the movies. Like last week Anthony Kavanagh was paired up with Alison and they sung 'Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now'. When all the 'Danny and Sandy' hopefuls had sung their songs and the public votes where added up, it was announced that Anthony and Alison had obtained enough votes to go through to next week's Grease is the Word television programme.
Saturday 28 April 2007: This week was the first of the live Grease is the Word television shows when one set of finalists where to be knocked-out. This week the theme was disco and Anthony Kavanagh, who was paired with Alison Crawford, sung the classic song 'Don't Leave Me This Way' - after all the finalists had sung and the public votes had been added up it was announced that Anthony and Alison had managed to secure enough public votes to go through to next week's programme.
